DescriptionDecorated calabash bowl. Made of the fruit of the calabash tree, cut in two, scooped out, and dried. These types of bowls were painted with an oxide of iron and manganese, but chiefly with red and yellow ochres which are common along the banks of the rivers. The outer and inner surface have been blackened, decorated with mineral pigments, and sealed with a plant sap.

The inner rim is decorated with parallel lines. In the basin, decoration consists of a flower with green and red coloured petals, outlined in yellow, with tendrils and leaves radiating out from the stem on either side. The space around the flower is filled with blue dots encircled by smaller yellow dots.
