DescriptionCircular pilgrim's token. It is decorated with images of triangles around the edge and an 8 pronged star inside a circle. These tokens or badges were bought by people on pilgrimage to various religious shrines. They were sold to raise income for the shrine and to provide people with something to take away as a souvenir, in preference to pilgrims helping themselves to a bit of the shrine itself. People wore them for good luck and protection but also to advertise they had been on a pilgrimage.
