DescriptionJohn Babb and his daughter, Charlotte, worked as china decorators at the famous potteries of Doulton's, Lambeth. Basing Yard no longer exists but was on the south side of Peckham High Street, between what is now Clayton and Consort roads. Basing Yard takes its name from Basing Manor, which stood near the junction of the High Street and Bellenden Road. These ancient buildings, part of Basing Manor House, once stood where is now the Labour Exchange in Bellenden Road.
