    DescriptionWooden toy model of flying chairs, with 3 figures, mounted on a base. Features are painted on the figures. The base is painted green, the stand red, and the arms blue. Bought at St. Bartholomew's Fair in September 1849.

    The fair at Smithfield dates back to the 12th century, when it was first held to celebrate the Feast of St. Bartholomew. In the 1700s Bartholomew Fair was a popular national and international event, featuring acrobats, prize-fighters, musicians and wild animals.
