DescriptionThese pamphlets show growing awareness of the importance of Gay & Lesbian issues in the borough from the late 1980s into the 1990s. The 'First Official Day for Lesbians and Gays in Southwark' took place in 1988, followed by an 'Out In Southwark' day in 1989. The same year Southwark libraries launched a new booklist 'Lesbian and Gays In Print' at an event at the North Peckham Civic Centre followed by a series of book readings from Alan Hollinghurst's 'The Swimming Pool Library' and Barbara Burford's 'The Threshing Floor'. Southwark Libraries also led local events for Lesbian and Gay Pride in 1991 including talks by Peter Tatchell and readings by Elizabeth Wilson and Claire Macquet.
