This painting was exhibited "Camberwell Past and Present" in 1938. In the catalogue entry the building is dated as 1700 or earlier, representing "an almost perfect example of the domestic architecture of the time". Its location is described as "solitary in open country beside the highway" on 18th century maps. Obscured by the frame is a note reading "exterior of Hatcham Manor after removing shed built round it".
