DescriptionBayes was born in St Pancras London. He studied at Westminster school of art and exhibited and taught at several places until coming to the at Camberwell school of arts and crafts, then near the Elephant and Castle tube station. During the First World War he produced work for the Ministry of Information. After the war he became principle of Westminster school of art. During the Second World War he offered two works to the War Artists Committee to purchase but they were turned down. The WAC did however commission him to produce large oil on the subject of the air raids which damaged Buckingham Palace. During the war he was also a prolific contributor to the Recording Britain project and produced many works looking at the everyday life of the London Essex and Oxford areas. He became director of painting at Lancaster school of arts and crafts before retiring in 1949.
