    DescriptionFull-length poncho from Tahiti made from barkcloth and decorated with a pattern of leaves and asymmetric dyed areas. Called a Tiputa it became popular among Tahitians who had converted to Christianity and was introduced to Samoa by Tahitian Christians.

    This was brought back to England by Captain Wilson after his missionary trip to the Pacific in his ship The Duff in 1796.
