DescriptionTreasure box carved to store treasures such as jade ornaments, combs and feathers. Treasure boxes were often hung from the rafters of the chief's house and were carved underneath where designs could be seen. This one was possibly carved by a European or by an inexperienced Maori carver as the style of the decorations, the design elements and the carving techniques used are very crude. Oceania/Maori.
