DescriptionRaised wooden sandals or bath clog with toe knob and ivory inlaid detail. They appear similar to Indian padukas worn by Hindus and Jains.

The uncovered upper of a paduka is suited the warm climate. They were often used by holy men as the small surface area on the ground prevented damaging insects and vegetation. They were also worn on special occasions.

This type of shoe was probably introduced to East Africa through trade.
