DescriptionFreemason's apron in dark pink fabric and white leather, embroidered with masonic symbols (moon, sun, stars, compass) in gold thread. The original catalogue notes that this is from the Royal Order of Scotland and is a Grand Steward's apron from 1840.

Freemasonry is recorded as far back as the 17th century but probably came from the master stone mason guilds long before that. Freemasons now focus on charitable works and social activities but in the past played an important role in male professional networking, useful for contacts, for gaining acceptance and for potential advancement. The ritualistic and "secret" side of Freemasonry meant it was often negatively viewed.
