DescriptionRoman lamp chain. It was found at the Steelyard, London in 1865.

Though many Roman lamps were handheld and portable, or were placed on a stand, it was not uncommon for them to have lamps which hung from the ceiling on a chain. In some cases, the lamp may have been suspended from a small decorative figure via the chain. Based on the length of this chain though, it seems more likely that the lamp suspended from it was suspended from the ceiling.
