DescriptionBones of a mummified Ibis, contained in a glass vial stopped with a cork. Animals were often mummified and used as messengers or offerings to the gods in the afterlife. The dead animal would carry the message from the living to the god in question. The Ibis were the sacred animals of the god Thoth, god of the moon and scribe of the gods.
