DescriptionAmulet of blue glass in the form of a "wedjat eye", the left eye of Horus which was linked with the moon.
In Ancient Egyptian mythology the eye was plucked out by Horus's rival Seth when they fought over the throne. Depending on the version of the story, it was restored by either Thoth, Hathor or Isis. The injury and healing associated with the wedjat eye represents the waxing and waning of the moon.

It is a common form of amulet, and a powerful symbol of regeneration. Its regenerative powers meant that it was often placed on mummy wrappings to aid the deceased person in being reborn in the afterlife. It was also worn by the living as a protective talisman.
