DescriptionSmall hand-held Magic lantern made by Richard Cuming. Formed of black laquered tin, with a handle, glass lens with seperate cap, and heat vent at the top bent towards the front.

The Magic Lantern was a type of early image projector often used in the home. It used a concave mirror to shine light through a slide (on which was painted the image to be projected) and through a lens at the front. The outcome was a large projection of the image on the screen.
