Topographical artist, painter and draughtsman.

Gideon Yates produced watercolours mostly of Thames associated London scenes, including the construction of new bridges and buildings particularly in the Bermondsey and Southwark areas. It is believed that Yates was living in Lancaster in 1811 and that he travelled throughout much of Great Britain and the Continent. Little else of him is known.

Yates' work frequently passes through auction houses and between private collections. He is represented by public collections including the Government Art Collection (GAC) and Victoria and Albert Museum.
