Edward Bawden

1903 - 1989

b. 1903 in Braintree, Essex; d. 1989 in Saffron Walden, Essex.

Printmaker, graphic designer, illustrator and painter. Studied at the School of Art in Cambridge (1918-22) and the Design School of the Royal College of Art (1922-6). First solo exhibition at the Zwemmer Gallery in London in 1933. During WWII he served as Official War Artist in the British Army. Became well known for linocuts and book illustrations.
