Painter mostly of Alpine landscapes; also a revered lawyer, politician and judge.

Collier was a frequent exhibitor at the Royal Academy and the Grovesnor Gallery. His paintings mostly depict highly dramatic and romanticised Alpine landscapes; usually in Switzerland where Collier spent long periods on vacation. Collier became a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1879 and he is a sitter in six portraits held by the National Portrait Gallery collection.

Collier became an established judge and he achieved the title 1st Lord Monkswell. He is father of the Hon. John Collier, an artist who is also represented by the Southwark Art Collection.
