John M. Paramor

John M. Paramor

Painter of local, urban subjects in oils.

John M. Paramor was an artist local to South London who lived in Swinborne Court, Denmark Hill. He was a member of an exhibiting society called the South East London Art Group. This group held many exhibitions at the South London Gallery (SLG), from where artists' work was frequently lent to and purchased by Camberwell Council (among other borough organisations) as part of a local collections initiative. Today these artworks form an important part of the Southwark Art Collection and provide an example of the borough’s rich local history and strong association with contemporary art and its support of local artists.

Little else is known about the artist John M. Paramor.

The Southwark Art Collection holds a number of Paramor's oil paintings which depict "back-street", everyday scenes of Post-War 1950s Southwark.
