Remarks: Little is known about Harold Thornton (1892-1958). There is another Harold Thornton (1907-1975) and thew two are not to be confused.
Artist and etcher of landscape and architectural scenes.
Harold Thornton studied at Burnley School of Art and then the Royal College of Art. He became an Assistant Master at Plymouth School of Art. Thornton was a competent etcher, producing images of architectural ruins, rural landscapes and also of London scenes and the river Thames.
Thornton's etchings are held by public collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum: Cotswold Country (E.532-1952), and the Government Art Collection: Ludlow Castle (GAC1309).
