Peter Blake

b. 1932 in Dartford, Kent. Studied at the Gravesend School of Art (1946-1951) and the Royal College of Art (1953-56). British pop artist whose paintings in the late 1950s included imagery from advertisements, music hall entertainment, and wrestlers. Often used collage with his paintings. Painted several sleeve albums including The Beatles album "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." Early 1970s he illustrated Lewis Carroll's "Through the Looking Glass" with a set of watercolours.
