Painter, restorer and well-known forger.

Inspiration to paint came at an early age when he joined his father and elder brothers in the building trade. Studied at the Croydon School of Art and Camberwell. After the war, became a full time student at Goldsmith's College and then became a lecturer in art at St. Andrew's College, London. Primarily worked as an art restorer and was a famous art forger who claimed to have forged more than 2,000 paintinngs by over one hundred different artists. Known for his witty imitations of the great Masters and his extensive conservation of paintings, especially his work as chief restorer on the murals at Marlborough House. Deliberately added flaws or anachronisms to his works. Was arrested and accused of conspiracy to defraud (1977).
