Eric Doitch

b. 1923 in Vienna; d. 2000 in Boston, Lincolnshire. Born as Siegfried Steiner in Austria. When he came to England, he continued his art education through a grant to St. Martin's School of Art. After the war, he entered Camberwell School of Art. He studied printmaking part-time at the Central School of Arts and Crafts. Influenced by Victor Pasmore, Claude Rogers, the etcher Andrew Freeth and William Palmer Robins. Studied painting at the Royal College of Art (1951). In early 1960s, he taught painting and drawing in Camberwell. Also taught at the City and Guilds School of Art and taught etching and lithography at Chelsea School of Art. His work focussed on bomb sites in the Camberwell area, children playing in the street, burned-out cars, fairground scenes and a string of Jewish pictures. Early recogition with an exhibition of etchings in Vienna, at Staatsdruckerei Galerie (1962).
