Born in Bristol in 1944 he studied at the West of England Academy and Brighton College of Art specialising in painting and printmaking. He became a lecturer at Bradford College of Art and then moved to Selly Oak Colleges , Birmingham to lecture in painting, fabric, embroidery and printmaking. In 1972 he studied for an MA in Theology at Cambridge. For the next 30 years he dedicated himself to the Church, mostly in Cornwall. He became the Vicar of Penzance and was made an Honorary Canon of Truro Cathedral before retiring to Newlyn and resuming his career as an artist in 2000, since when he has exhibited regularly.
