Tracey Emin

b. 1963 in Croydon.

Contemporary artist associated with the YBA's (Young British Artists)

Studied at Fine Art Maidstone College of Art (1986) and Royal College of Art (1987-89). First solo show at the White Cube Gallery (1994), a leading contemporary art gallery in London. Her first solo show was "My Major Retrospective" and it consisted of personal photographs. Work is primarily conceptual and concerned with art as a direct reflection of life. Work is fundamentally object-based. "The Exorcism of the Last Painting I Ever Made" (1996) was a performance in Stockholm. Founded the Tracy Emin Museum (1995) which was mainly filled with ready-made objects.
