b. 1836 in Fontebuona, Tuscany; d. 1886 in Florence. Italian painter, sculptor, caricaturist, and writer. Studied at Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence under Aristodemo Costolli. Commissioned for temporary statue of Charles Albert of Savoy, his work was disliked by the academicians. Associated with Florentine group of painters known as the Macchiaioli, who he caricatured in the watercolour the "Caffe Michelangelo."
