Anthony Gross

Anthony Gross

b. 1905 in London; d. 1984 in Boulve, Lot, France. English painter, printmaker and film-maker. Studied at Replon, L'Academie Julian, Ecole des Beaux-Arts and Slade. Trained in etching in London, Paris and Madrid (1923-25). Created a number of animated films while living in France (1931-39). Oil paintings in the 1930s depicted French and English life and leisure. Served as an Official War Artist (1941-46), covering campaigns in El Alamein, India, Burma, Iran and Normandy. Became the first President of the Print Makers Council (1965). One-man shows held at the Leicester Galleries (London), Sagot et te Garrec (Paris) and Hugo Gallery (NY).
