    DescriptionWhite glazed porcelain figure of a woman holding a child. made of Japanese Hirado ware, recognisable by the unglazed pierced eyes. There is a paper label pasted to base with black ink calligraphy on it. Hirado ware was originally produced exclusively for the daimyo who supported the kilns, but with the disintegration of feudalism support was replaced by that of the Dutch East India Company. In the 19th century Hirado ware was a vauable export.
