DescriptionMiddle cross brace from a tall, square stool. This brace would have fitted into round legs under the seat part of the stool. Egyptian style, possibly made in Egypt and imported to London.

The style of the decoration and all features of the legs are identical to Egyptian stools and footstools of this and earlier periods. The base of the legs each have a small indent similar to that made by a lathe but the carved decoration is too uneven to have been made turned on a lathe. It was probably held in place by a pivot to brace in place while being turned manually.

Found at the Steelyard in 1864.
