DescriptionAmulet in the form of a wedjat eye, the lunar left eye of Horus. In Ancient Egyptian mythology the eye was plucked out by Horus' rival Seth when they fought over the throne. Depending on the version of the story it was restored by either Thoth, Hathor or Isis. The injury and healing associated with the wedjat eye represents the waxing and waning of the moon. It is a common form of amulet and a powerful symbol of regeneration. Its regenerative powers meant that it was often placed on mummy wrappings to help the deceased be reborn in the afterlife. It was also worn by the living as a protective amulet.
