DescriptionCalash or bonnet of green silk with a hood and draw strings. It was stiffened at the front and when indoors could be folded down like the hood of the calash gig or small carriage. When opened up the wearer would keep it in place by holding a length of cord. Calash bonnets are always green, in this case green "sarcenet", a soft material usually twill or silk.
