DescriptionThe sole is carved with decorative cross-hatched squares and fleur-de-lis type patterns. They are similar to Indian padukas worn by Hindus and Jains. The uncovered upper of a paduka is suited the warm climate. They were often used by holy men as the small surface area on the ground prevented damaging insects and vegetation. They were also worn on special occasions.
