DescriptionLid of a Roman funerary ash chest. A sculpted female figure reclines on the top, holding a bunch of grapes in her right hand. A familiar form in Etruscan funerary art, but unique in Britain, and rare elsewhere in the Roman world. It was found in a Roman well during excavations under Southwark Cathedral in 1977.
