    DescriptionRound brass box with relief profile of Admiral Lord Nelson on the lid. Impressed on the underside are a list of honours: 'Conqueror at Aboutir, Aug 1798, Copenhagen, 2 April 1801, Trafalgar, 21 Oct 1805 where he gloriously fell'. There is a Greek key pattern around the sides.

    Snuff boxes were used for holding snuff, a scented powdered tobacco, in the 17th and 18th centuries. It was inhaled through the nose and was thought to have medicinal properties. The making of snuff boxes was a lucrative business. They could range in design from very simple to extremely ornate.
