Walter Sickert

1860 - 1942

Born in Munich of Danish parents, he came to England in 1868. He was a pupil of Whistler and from 1885 onwards new Degas well. After he settled in London in 1905 Sickert's studio became a centre for many young painters, including those who were to found the Camden Town group.
