Sir James Dromgole Linton PRI

Born 1840 in St Pancras, London; Died 1916 in Hampstead, London

Painter in oils and watercolours; also a lithographer.

Linton was educated at Leigh's School of Art, a London art school which paid particular attention to portraiture, figurative painting and sculpture. Linton was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours (RI) in 1870, and acted as the institute’s President between 1884 and 1899, and again from 1909 until his death in 1916. Linton received a knighthood in 1885.

Linton is represented by public collections including Nottingham City Museums and Galleries, St Helens County Council, Museums Sheffield, Maidstone Museum & Bentlif Art Gallery, Leicester Arts and Museums Service, among others.
