DescriptionJohn Coakley Lettsom (1744-1815) was a noted 18th century Quaker physician and herbalist, friend of Benjamin Franklin, Dr. Johnson, Boswell and other intelligentsia of the day. The beautiful gardens of his home, Grove House, looked across fields from the airy slopes of Camberwell to the then distant London. The house and garden are now gone, buried under the streets of Camberwell. Only this lodge still survives.
The artist lived at 36 Dalkeith Road, SE21.
