DescriptionCircular shield of black lacquered hide with four gilt brass bosses. The inner surface has an ornamented cushion and two handles of leather covered in black velvet.

This piece is described as from the "museum of the late Mr Thomas Everill, Mount Row, Lambeth." This was Everill's own private museum. The piece is attributed to the Polygar people of the Tamil Nadu region in India. The Polygar and the British East India Company fought several wars against each other during the late 18th early 19th century. The troops of the British East India Company eventually defeated the Polygar troops but not without considerable losses on both sides.
