DescriptionZulu pipe bowl, of grey-green steatite. It is cylindrical, and is covered with horizontal lines of heavy pointed projections or nodules. There is a plain band at the top and bottom, and a single horizontal raised flat bar. The bowl is deep with a small hole at the bottom which connects to a long narrow depression. Small carved Zulu objects in a variety of materials, such as this pipe, are carved in unusual shapes. The inspiration for the shapes and forms may be from natural, such as seed pods.
