DescriptionSmall globular snuff-bottle made from the stomach of an ox. It has a small neck indented to fit a narrow strap which is tied around it. The stopper is made of reddish-brown coloured wood, and has a small cord through the centre tied to the strap. It is decorated all over the body and neck with tiny pinched peaks arranged in fine horizontal lines. The ox stomach, treated with other substances, would have the consistency of putty and could be manipulated into different shapes while wet. It would harden on drying. Nguni. Southern Africa. On View
