DescriptionBuilt alongside the canal to serve this once densely populated residential and industrial part of Camberwell. Paid for by philanthropist John Passmore Edwards (1823-1911), the facility opened in 1902 at a time when few of the houses in neighbouring streets had baths. The area was heavily bombed during the Second World War and all the buildings and houses that surrounded the baths were demolished. With its users rehoused in other areas, the baths, washhouse and library closed. Today the building houses Groundwork Southwark and Lambeth as well as the Lynn Boxing Club.On View
