DescriptionVase thought to be showing symbols from the Hindu religion. It is decorated with alternating bands containing images of birds, dogs, gods and floral motifs.Described in the museum notes as being from Benares, the traditional name for Varanasi now in the Indian state of Utar Pradesh. Varanasi is described as India's holiest city and is thought to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.
