DescriptionSmall orange earthenware oil-lamp with a broken handle. It is stamped Strobili. Strobili is Latin for 'pine cones', but in this case is likely the name of the producer or workshop which produced it. The Latin for this type of lamp is 'Firmalampen' - factory lamp - and was particularly common in military provinces of the Roman Empire, including Britannia. It was found in Tokenhouse Yard, London in 1863.
