    DescriptionRoman spatula. Paddle-shaped spatula made of iron. It was probably used for medicinal or surgical purposes. Spatulas were commonly used for mixing and spreading medicines, scraping off ointments, as tongue compressors and even for cauterising wounds. Found at Tokenhouse Yard in 1866. London.
