DescriptionChinese foot-bound shoe, with a light blue silk background along the sides and a gold silk ankle guard. It is decorated with a pink and blue chequered galloon around the top edge, and metal line embroidery in a Greek key pattern which blends into floral motifs towards the back. There is trimming and raised floral embroidery in green, pink and yellow towards the toe. The more ornate and skilfully sewn the boot, the more highly regarded the wearer, who would have sewed them herself. The wearer's foot would have been approximately 4 inches meaning she would have been known as a 'silver lotus'. On View
