DescriptionA series of five Biblical narrative scenes, painted in oil onto canvas, housed within a gilt and architectural frame support.According to the 1895 catalogue the five scenes are:
1 Jeptha [sic] vowing to sacrifice the first person met after victory
2 Jeptha gaining the victory
3 Jeptha’s daughter coming first to meet him
4 Jeptha’s daughter mourning
5 The sacrifice
The date given on our catalogue is 1900 but Art UK contributors sugegst that the date of the work is earlier and as it was exhibited in 1892 and 1894, the work must be dated before then. Our past curators might have out this date in as an acquisition date, although the catalogue record is not certin of the provenance. Thanks to ART UK detectives.
