DescriptionIncense holder in the shape of a kylin with a hole in the mouth to let out smoke. It is blue glazed and would have been used for holding incense. This is a koro or incense burner which in the Cuming catalogue is attributed to Japan.
However the dragon like creature depicted is perhaps more like the Chinese Kylin or Qilin and so for this record we have identified it as Chinese. Japanese Kylins or Kirin is thought to be more like a deer or giraffe.
