DescriptionDemolished c. 1961, Hill Crest Lodge was the gatehouse to 169 Denmark Hill, formerly Dulwich Hill House demolished c. 1890 when Sunray Avenue was created.
Benjamin Attwood (1794-1874) inherited the house (and a fortune in cash) from his nephew. Already of independent means, he chose to give the money away to numerous charities. Hill Crest Lodge was the last survivor of the houses that formerly lined Denmark Hill, the rest being long demolished and replaced by flats.
The artist lived at 132 Rosendale Road, SE21
