DescriptionMale dance skirt made from dyed and plaited hibiscus, ornamented with feathers and dog's fur. The Cuming museum had a major exhibition of its Oceanic collections in 2006 and this piece was featured. It was made much later than many other objects in the Mana exhibition and was donated to the Cuming Museum in the 1920s. It has a combination of style and technique that was current in that period. The addition of dog's fur is unusual in areas outside of New Zealand. It is possibly from the Cook Islands.
