DescriptionMummified head of a baby crocodile in a clear glass bottle, sealed with a cork stopper. The crocodile was sacred to Sobek, god of violent powers. The Ancient Egyptians often mummified the sacred animal of a particular god and left it in their temple in order to act as gifts or messengers to the god in question. In this case it would have been for Sobek. This crocodile headed god was associated with the Nile and with power and strength. He was patron god of the Egyptian army.
